Teenage Teacher: things i learned from a 14 year old

Here are some things that i learned from a 14 year old

it's okay to fail.
just hit start and play the sequence on the video again.  The previous tie he got shot, so this time he knows someone is behind that rock and he is prepared.

turn the wheel
we were driving past MAC ART GALLERY and Ive driven that route for 8 years.   He said, "what's that?"
so I stopped.  I turned the wheel and parked.   we spent 30 minutes talking with Adam an artist and curator of the gallery.  Adam had the attitude that the guest is god and he gave us his full attention and even took us behind the warehouse door so we could see other works not yet on display.  remarkable.   we ended up offering to improve his youtube hits.

pixlr
photos need to be made BIGGER to fit in a box that Apple has determined is appropriate for iTunes.   The 14 year old showed me how to use Pixlr.

... thank you

"Students should do things because the things seem important and worth doing. Knowledge and skill should be shared rather than hoarded." -- John Holt

Dear Leo

I just read an interesting paragraph from a book

Though Holt later wrote about peace and counseled draft resistance, he described the

submarine as “the best learning community I have ever seen or been part of.” In Instead

of Education he wrote, “We were not on [the submarine] to ‘learn,’ but to help fight the

war. Like millions of other people at the time, we did not talk or think about ‘learning’;

we learned from the demanding work we did together, and we shared our experience and

skill as widely as we could. The submarine experience exemplified two of his central

beliefs about education: that one should not do things in order to learn, but because they

seem important and worth doing, and that knowledge and skill should be shared rather

than hoarded.

I want to put two of those points in big letters

Students should do things because the things seem important and worth doing.   Knowledge and skill should be shared rather
than hoarded.
John Holt
